How do I know which course to take?
If the following statements are true for you, then you are ready for the Advanced Positive Psychology Interventions course. If not, then we recommend that you first take the Coaching Skills course.
- I know what coaching is.
- I know how to set an agenda and accountability with my clients.
- I use powerful questions with my clients in order to facilitate forward movement.
- I know the importance of acknowledgment and I use it in every session.
How are the classes delivered?
The classes are delivered over the phone on a conference line. Students are required to participate in class by way of volunteering for demonstrations, asking questions, and sharing their insights.
How long is each class?
Each teleconference class session is one full hour. This is where we will do demonstrations and answer questions. Your participation matters! The more active in class, the more you will learn!
Is there homework?
Yes. For each course there is a set of required reading, recorded lectures, and practice homework sessions in addition to the live teleconference class time. For most classes you will meet up with an assigned partner to practice the skills you have learned in the previous classes. Between class time and homework, we estimate that the total amount of time required is approximately three (3) hours per week.
Is there an exam?
For many of our classes we require students to complete a live oral exam to demonstrate their mastery of the coaching skills covered during the course. The exams are often scheduled towards the middle and end of each course. There is also a written exam for Applied Positive Psychology.
Are the classes recorded?
The live session will be recorded. However, it is very important that you set aside time each week for the class so that you can participate.
After completing your courses will I be certified?
To receive a certificate from Positive Acorn’s distance learning courses as a “Positive Psychology Coach”, you must meet the following criteria…
1. Take our Coaching Skills course or a foundations coaching course from another institution. You will need to show proof of this.
2. Take our Applied Positive Psychology course. These classes are mandatory for our certification.
You will receive a certificate of course completion after you have taken a course from Positive Acorn.
Is Positive Acorn’s certificate ICF certified?
No. We here at Positive Acorn want our students to walk away with much more than a piece of paper. We want them to gain skills that will transform the work that they do with their clients. Our goal is to build a supportive community of applied positive psychology practitioners through our courses and continue the learning process after our students have graduated our programs. That said, we DO honor and practice the ICF Core Competencies and Code of Ethics. You can use any of our classes as part of your portfolio application for ICF credentialing.
Are Continuing Education Units (CEU) available for students who complete the course?
Our Applied Positive Psychology course is currently approved for 17.5 ICF CCEs. Please email info@positiveacorn.com to see if the course you are interested is offering CEUs.
Who will be instructing the courses?
Students will have the opportunity to learn from various Positive Acorn instructors in our courses; Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener and Jessica Austin. Our thinking behind this is to give our students a wide range of learning experiences as well as learn the unique styles that our instructors have.
