Welcome! This course is intended to support you in your professional development as a coach. We will focus on coaching skills, improved presence, and ethical decision-making. This course is highly interactive in that it will require you to discuss, reflect, and coach. We hope to create a safe and supportive atmosphere that will make this learning more effective and enjoyable.

Course Learning Objectives

  • To define professionalism as it relates to coaching
  • To develop the skills of reflective practice
  • To improve self-knowledge
  • To enhance fundamental coaching skills


Each class meeting has a lesson to be completed in advance of the meeting. There is a chart with lesson dates at the bottom of this syllabus. In addition to these group sessions, each participant in this course will meet with the instructor on 3 separate occasions for one-on-one feedback on your coaching. These sessions will be scheduled on a mutually agreed-upon schedule. Generally speaking, these meetings will be scheduled for one meeting per month in May, June, and July. Students must submit a recording of a coaching session in advance of this meeting.

  • Readings
  • Recordings of each session are posted in the follow-up for each lesson.

Attending class:

We use Zoom for our class meetings. Our Zoom meeting can be found in this syllabus. Please plan to arrive early enough to adjust your audio settings and ensure your technology is working properly. Class begins promptly.

Because our classes depend on self-disclosure and participation, we require a confidential and supportive learning environment. Please refer to your enrollment agreement for more information.

Course Requirements:

Each mentee will be expected to participate in the class sessions as well as complete lessons in advance of the class session. Please come to class ready to coach and have a topic you would like to be coached on. Attendance is a crucial aspect of this course. Absences can disrupt our coaching schedule. Please let us know as soon as you are able if you cannot make it to a particular session. If you miss a class or wish to listen to a previous class, they will be available on our website in the lesson section. These are not intended to be regular substitutions for attendance.
We also understand that some people find value in reviewing these recordings after the course has ended. We will make the recordings and materials available for 24 weeks after the course ends.
